-------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: How to thank your campaign volunteers Date: Fri, 16 Oct 2015 23:00:55 +0000 From: Samara Canada bailey.greenspon (at "at" sign) samaracanada.com To: Stefan Jetchick chp.ca *We know this is one of the least important pre-election emails. Please feel free to «mark unread» or forward it to your personal email address, to open again on Tuesday.* Hello candidates, Congratulations on a hard-fought campaign! From hammering in the first lawn sign to counting the last ballot, I know the last two months have not been easy. You have devoted 78 days of your life to this campaign because you believe democracy can be better. I'm writing to ask for five more minutes before the election hangover sets in to celebrate those people who supported you in your campaign. Take five minutes to nominate a volunteer from your campaign as an Everyday Political Citizen "www. samaracanada.com/everyday-political-citizen". It's a project that celebrates ordinary citizens working in different ways to make Canadian democracy better (and is most enthusiastically supported by Rick Mercer "www.samaracanada.com/everyday-political-citizen/introduc ing-the-2015-everyday-political-citizen-jury"). Did you have a volunteer who overcame unusual obstacles on their path to politics? How about a volunteer who energized the canvassing team on rainy days? Think of one anecdote that sticks out about this volunteer & publicly thank them by recognizing them nationally. Here's how to nominate your volunteer: - Think of one special volunteer - Grab their photo (Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn profiles work well) and email address - Think of an anecdote or a couple of reasons why they stood out -- this will serve as the nomination text - Hit «reply» or open an email addressed to Samara's Community Animator, Bailey, at bailey.greenspon. In the body of the text tell us: - Your name - Your riding - Nominee's name - Nominee's email address - An anecdote telling us why he or she is an Everyday Political Citizen (approx. 75 words) - Don't forget to include their image Need some inspiration? Take a look at Ottawa-Centre's Liberal candidate Catherine McKenna's nomination "www.samaracanada.com/samarablog/blog-post/samara-main- blog/2015/07/23/2015-epcitizen-nominee-jasmine-akbarali? sf-lc-status=Master&sf-content-action=preview&sf-auth= er2zfmYMadJjmNuuVSI4pRpZyQ3quTeTXbOc%2bF%2 fHMOiN8yXAB55PFBs81a%2 bbFZiphQFnLFI1CaIMrPPVLAgmrH4XLonZqlS4H8MMdImrheVJRngXio %2bzOxc%2 bUNC6juZStAQJ5Q4P17sXi1qTdewmTjUepTMDto7zAX4v7CPEc4a7Hcn DCLpQ4HigsMfSdAm4ggAAAA%3d%3d", Delta's Conservative candidate Kerry Lynne Findlay's nomination "www. samaracanada.com/samarablog/blog-post/samara-main-blog/ 2015/06/25/2015-epcitizen-nominee-jim-holt", University- Rosedale's NDP candidate Jennifer Hollett's nomination "www.samaracanada.com/samarablog/blog-post/samara -main-blog/2015/06/30/2015-epcitizen-nominee-nadine- tkatchevskaia", or North Okanagan - Shuswap's Green candidate Chris George's nomination "www. samaracanada.com/samarablog/blog-post/samara-main-blog/ 2015/07/20/2015-epcitizen-nominee-keli-westgate". Samara Canada www.samaracanada.com is a non- partisan charitable organization that works to improve political participation in Canada. -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Re: How to thank your campaign volunteers Date: Sat, 24 Oct 2015 22:47:26 -0400 From: Stefan Jetchick To: Samara Canada Good day Ms. Hilderman, >> *We know this is one of the least important >> pre-election emails. This, on the contrary, is one of the most important post-election e-mails you will receive! Seriously, your initial e-mail is quite important in itself. Firstly, it made me discover your existance (I had never heard of "Samara" before). Second, it made me discover the brilliance of your logo (the "helicopter seeds" that come down of Maple trees) as a symbol of "small efforts that can lead to big results for Canada". Thirdly, the description of your organization made me think of a research topic: [Samara] "encourages greater political participation across the country to build better politics, and a better Canada" and "The conversations provoked by Samara's research help Canadians to better understand and contribute to renewing politics." [Source] Actually, my research question is so obvious and so important for the health of the Canadian democracy that you've probably done that research already, and I'm just not clever enough to find it on your web site. The research topic is just: "How often do candidates get invited to all-candidates debates in their ridings?" I've been a candidate for the past four elections (i.e. from 2006 to 2015), and I have never been invited to an all-candidates debate. Moreover, I have never even heard of an all-candidates debate in my riding! The most we've had are beauty contests between the candidates selected by the Media, as opposed to a real debate, including all candidates requested by the voters in that riding. >> Samara simultaneously seeks to >> engage Canadians by promoting positive politics and >> active citizenship. Speaking of ways to engage Canadians and promote positive politics, do you have a "How To" on your web site explaining to ordinary Canadians how to organize a political debate in their riding? Cheers, Stefan Jetchick, Candidate for the CHP during the 42nd Canadian Election.
