Quebec City, Wednesday February 5, in the year 2020 after the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Well, it has been quite a political ride!
Fourteen years ago, on January 23, 2006, I tried for the first time to get myself elected in the Louis-Hébert riding in Canada. I tried again for every subsequent federal election except this latest one of October 21, 2019, which I skipped because my good friend Marie-Claude Bouffard is now dying of ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease).
Actually, Marie-Claude's disease is making me think about my own life, and what I've done with it. So I just updated my last will and testament, and this got me thinking about my "political testament". Will I continue to be involved in politics after the end of Marie-Claude's exile here below? I don't know. I guess we can never stop trying to help our Democracy, no matter how sick or even how dying it might be. That being said, I do feel the need to "finish a chapter" in my political efforts.
Could I summarize, in one page, all my political efforts so far? If (God forbid) I died of a heart attack tonight, what "political legacy" would I leave behind? If I had three ideas I wanted to give to all Canadians, three essential political ideas our Country needs the most badly, what would they be? This is my best attempt:
In conclusion of this chapter of my political activities, I like what Leonardo Da Vinci reputedly put on his tombstone:
Peregi quod potui: veniam da mihi, posteritas.
(I did what I could, may posterity forgive me.)
