I did try to follow your argument claiming that Bergoglio is not the current Pope. I do remember thinking this was pretty subtle stuff, not unlike a ballerina tip-toeing around in her ballet slippers. Normally I poke fun of such dancing, like for Hans Urs von Balthasar (although I'm sure you'd look much better than him in a ballerina outfit! ... Must... Keep ... Custody... Of... The... Imagination). I can't claim to be able to prove you are wrong. But even if you were right, I can't see how that would be much of an improvement. Benedict XVI has made several public declarations about Bergoglio that I would qualify as "brown-nosing". If Bergoglio is an antipope as you say, and Benedict XVI is still the real Pope, then Benedict XVI is an unmitigated a..hole for not publicly denouncing and condemning all the idiocies of Bergoglio. So even if Bergoglio is not Pope, we are still stuck with a terribly bad Pope who is sowing doctrinal confusion in the flock. Either way, I really like Fr. Hunwicke's explanations about the common cause of both "hyper-papalism" and "sedevacantism".

In monasteries and friaries in distant, far-flung areas of the world which seemed (at least in 400 AD) like the very last places on earth that civilization would ever survive. Backwater places like Britannia. And even then the flame flickered very faintly for 1,000 years before growing bright again. Records show how tenuous a grasp the Church and civilization in general held over early medieval society. But the flame never died. THE BARNHARDT AXIOM: The fact that a given person is holding or seeking high- level public office is, in and of itself, proof that said person is morally and/or psychologically UNFIT to hold public office. [Source: Are We Comprehending The Barnhardt Axiom YET??!!] When Zeno claimed to have proved that movement was impossible using his famous paradoxes, "Diogenes the Cynic said nothing upon hearing Zeno's arguments, but stood up and walked, in order to demonstrate the falsity of Zeno's conclusions." Wouldn't the Barnhardt Axiom be automatically disproved if you just got off your backside and sought high-level public office? (If you counter with arguments such as "The USA doesn't exist anymore", etc., I'll refer you back to the previous section, which explains why seeking public office in a dead or dying republic still makes sense.) But I was thinking this morning (while doing battle against what is gearing up to be another 2008-type snowfall record) that this is a massive error about the very nature of the papacy, and not only that, but a doctrinal error that Pope Benedict XVI has obstinately acted upon. Wouldn't that trigger a latae sententia excommunication on Benedict XVI? And if you fall from the Faith of Peter, you automatically fall from the Chair of Peter, right? So neither "Pope" Francis nor Benedict XVI would currently be Pope? Please keep up the good work.
